Later Dude. What Up G?

Remember when we used to double-up our collared Polo shirts? Popped collars or not, you all know that you did it at one time or another.  You wouldn’t leave the house without a moose, seagull, or horse on some, if not all, of your clothing.  Accompanying the wild animals was hair with a flip or messy spike, but apparently those days are long gone.  You look around now and you see guys with “flow,” flattops, and the triple stripe design or a star etched into the side of their heads.  Now this new urban movement is hitting all demographics, from inner cities to suburbs, but we must look at the reason behind it.  The answer simply is Kanye West. (”Why do I need a stylist when I shop so much that I can speak Italian.”) The multi-platinum hip-hop mogul forces us to recognize that his style of music represents his style of clothing.  Both of which are new, fresh, and just all around cool.  From crazy graphic tees, to a lime green and pink windbreaker, Kanye West is not only changing the rap game, but the way we dress.

This change in style can be seen by the sudden movement into stores like Urban Outfitters and H&M.  People are wearing any tee with a vest and skinny jeans as a normal outfit now, rather than sand-blasted jeans and salmon T-shirt with A&F written all over it.  Instead of a moose or a seagull, it’s a fresh check on their sneakers.  That’s right, fresh Nikes.  Street-inspired sneakers, specifically Nikes, are the foundation of this urban transformation.  Whether it be hi-top Dunks, Air Max 90s, or Jordans… everyone is wearing them… and the tongue is almost always over the jeans.
